A couple recommendations from Valspar in choosing the right color for your room,

Trying a sample is the best first step in any painting project. Paint can appear to change color depending on the light in the room -- whether it's near a window or in a corner, at eye-level or near a baseboard. Designers and decorators often test paint colors before making a final selection by doing a 'roll out.' This can be done at home by applying a Valspar sample to a piece of poster board and watching how the light affects it in different areas of the room.

hmmm, maybe painting it on a board and moving it around the room is a much better plan than the one I had - I painted sample spots all over the walls until I found the one I liked.  It looked incredibly silly for a couple weeks!
