Kroger: Low Prices, Faster Checkout - Get the Scoop on NEW Kroger Changes In-Store

The 130 year old grocery chain Kroger will be rolling out some exciting changes this week and MyAtlantaMommy was invited behind the scenes of an Atlanta store to get a preview of all that is to come.

Sunday, Sept 8, Kroger unveiled a new price initiative by lowering prices store-wide on over 3,000 items with more than over 14,000 new shelf tags displaying the changes. In addition, customers will see new signage and a more streamlined look for the staff's uniforms.

Kroger is the nation's 2nd largest grocer. You can find one near you with over 160 locations in the Atlanta Metro area. Check out www.Kroger.com for location information.

As a leader in the grocery industry, Kroger is helping pave the path in providing healthy options for it's customers. Each department has recently received updates: more locally grown options, more gluten free choices, over 4000 USDA certified organic and GMO free (Genetically Modified Organism) items storewide. Kroger's signature organic line Simple Truth is also taking up more shelf space. There is a push to have over 500 Simple Truth items in the stores by the end of the year.

In addition to all the healthy options Kroger is providing for your family, they are also "Going Green" as a company. Customers will see new motion censored LED lighting in the freezer section, fewer but better over head lights with added sky lights, high efficiency-low flow toilets in the restrooms, and new floors that require less chemical cleaners.

Unfortunately not all the changes will be loved by all Kroger customers. Effective September 22, 2013 Kroger will accept manufacturer’s coupons only at face value and will no longer double their savings. After much research and data analysis, it was discovered that very few customers were benefiting from this program, and that overall coupon usage is declining as fewer shoppers are actually clipping coupons. The good news is, customers can easily visit www.kroger.com and download coupons directly to their Kroger Plus card. There is also a new Kroger iPhone App that is making downloadable coupons more popular and more convenient. This change will allow Kroger to invest more into across the board competitive pricing, which should have a broader appeal and leave everyone’s pocket book alittle heavier at the end of the day.

Regular shoppers to Kroger have already noticed the decrease in wait time at the registers. Stores now feature a new technology that help staff be the most efficient they can be in making sure you have the fastest service in the industry. Kroger is the only grocery chain in the US to utilize this technology and Kroger’s customers are now experiencing wait times at the check out stands well under one minute (about 31 seconds).

Kroger is wanting to hear from it's customers. Do you have a comment, question, or suggestion.... A new receipt survey system was implemented to ensure that shoppers are being heard, loud and clear. At the bottom of every receipt will be information for a survey that can earn shoppers 50 fuel points per week for participating.

What are fuel points???? Here is the 411 ....each purchase you link to your Kroger Plus card earns you fuel points. $1 purchase (excluding alcohol, cigarettes and some pharmacy items) = 1 fuel point. It's as simple as that. Accumulate 100 fuel points in a month and redeem them at a local Kroger fuel station or participating Shell station for $0.10 discount per gallon of fuel. 200 fuel points gets you $0.20 off per gallon, all the way up to 1000 fuel points earning you a $1.00 discount per gallon.

Keep an eye out for promotions that earn you bonus fuel points. For example.... There is a current promotion running now through Sept 14 that earns you 4 times the fuel points on gift card purchases. For example: a $25 Toy's R Us gift card would normally earn you 25 fuel points.... but right now you can earn 100 fuel points for that same purchase. Gift card categories vary widely: Apple Store & iTunes, movies theaters (AMC & Regal), food (Subway, Olive Garden, Cheescake Factory, etc.) and clothing retailers (Gap, Nordstrom's, Zappos, etc.), Southwest Airlines, Home Depot and Lowe's, Petco... just to name a few.
Each store's gift card selection varies, so visit your local store for more details.
