Guest Post: Reclaiming Your Fabulous Self by Ellen Lubin-Sherman

I recently did a review of the book by Ellen Lubin-Sherman, author of THE ESSENTIALS OF FABULOUS: BECAUSE “WHATEVER” DOESN’T WORK HERE ANYMORE  Loved It!   Ellen was kind enough to offer her advise in a few guests posts for My Atlanta Mommy.  I am grateful and excited to introduce you to the first of those posts.  Enjoy!

Reclaiming Your Fabulous Self
It boggles my mind. So many people who are truly fabulous walking around listening to a steady stream of negative and diminishing self-talk. No wonder we feel like we’re carrying a 500 pound suitcase – all that nonsense is dead weight. Interested in traveling the world with a lot less baggage?

1. Get dressed everyday like you’re off to somewhere. Those exercise clothes are great for exercise but not for the entire day. Go to the gym, take a shower and now slip on a great pair of pants (jeans, corduroys, chinos, wool) and a crisp shirt. Voila! You’re going to feel like you can take on the world.

2. Smile. For no reason. Just smile at everyone. Tell the world you’re a happy, optimistic, full of great humor kind of person. Now you’re acting like a human magnet, bringing like-minded people into your constellation. Oh happy days – the friends you’re going to make.

3. Do not tolerate friends who diminish you (“oh you’ll never get that job”) or make you feel badly about yourself. Those dear friends are “frenemies” who need to be jettisoned immediately. Like old milk, friends who do not wish the best for you are ready to be tossed.

4. Ask a board member (see Chapter 11 in The Essentials of Fabulous) the ten things she loves about you. Write everything down. Don’t disagree, just write. Now type it up and paste that list inside your medicine cabinet. Every morning look at that list and marvel at how other people see you. “You’re fun to be with”; “You have a wonderful wit”; “You’re always there when I need you.” Memorize that list. Only listen to that – that’s your personalized radio station.
5. Find something that you’re passionate about and share it with the world. Baking, knitting, teaching, riding a bicycle, running, writing, developing a style – it doesn’t matter. The most important thing is for you to revel in your passion and invite others to share in your delight. That’s how the fabulous operate – their passion is contagious like the measles.
