Callaway Gardens Spring Getaway

Spring, as one can easily guess, is a beautiful time to visit Callaway Gardens. Callaway has something for the whole family. There are literally hundreds of gorgeous biking trails to ride through, and no worries if not everyone has a bike. Callaway has a huge selections of bikes for rent including kid-size bikes and bikes with infant seats on the back.

There is so much to talk about with Callaway! I have taken this kids here several times. They have something to do for all ages, so everyone stays busy or happily relaxed.

Their Easter Eggstravaganza at Robin Lake Beach is April 3rd from 2 - 5. Hunts are held by age groups, and the Easter Bunny will visit from noon to 5:00 p.m. for boys and girls to have their Easter photo taken. You can bring your own basket or buy one when you arrive. The Egg hunts are free with your admission to Callaway Gardens. (and admission is also free with the packages I mention below :-)

The Callaway Gardens Get Outside and Play Package, starts at $99 per night and includes lodging, two hours of free bike rentals, a free round of golf, two hours of Jon Boat Rental, an hour of Tennis Court Time, admission to Callaway Gardens and the use of their fitness center.

Callaway Facebook Fans, Twitter Followers, and all lovers of the outdoors can get a room starting at just $79 (which included admission to the Gardens). Simply mention the FB/Twitter deal when you make your reservation. As of this post, rooms for April 5 - 9 were still available.

And ahm, Callaway has a spa! This package would be great for a couple families. Let the dads golf for a bit while moms and kids take an amazing bike ride through a few of the trails together, then Moms hit the spa while dads take the kids through the Butterfly Conservatory or the Birds of Prey Exhibit, or even take them on a Geocaching Treasure Hunt.

Geocaching is a blast for kids and an interactive way to enjoy the Gardens. Callaway has hidden “treasures” throughout the Gardens for you to find either by using a GPS unit or by following map directions. Click here for a complete list and description of the caches and search on ZIP code 31822. All of the caches within the Gardens begin with the pre-fix “Callaway Gardens.” Caches are placed in cooperation with the Gardens’ Education Department to ensure that the plants, natural communities, and other features of Callaway Gardens are not damaged or cause searchers to become lost.

So Get Outside and Play! happy trails :-)

Note: There is a Wild Animal Safari in Pine Mountain you will pass on your way to Callaway Gardens. A friend and I stopped there once with the kids. Once. Maybe its changed. Maybe it hasn't. Riding through using their complimentary Tour Bus, which is running during the week of Spring Break, could prove a completely different experience AND it has been over five years since I was there. Just sayin - cause it's expensive! ($17.95 for adults, $14.95 3-12, toddlers free)

For a great list of 10 other fun things to do in and around Atlanta during Spring Break, visit AtlantaMomsLikeMe.

Free 16 page Allergy Guide from Rite Aid

Rite Aid is teaming up with the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) again this spring to help allergy sufferers with Free Allergy Guides. You can grab one on-line here or pick one up in nearly any of the 4,800 Rite Aid stores nationwide.

The 16-page Allergy Guide shares useful information to help people cope with allergies (you can find it in the Rite Aid pharmacy waiting areas and at registers), and makes understanding allergies easy with:

* A simple explanation of the science behind all allergic reactions, whether they're caused by airborne particles – such as pollen or pet dander – or proteins in many foods

* Five tips to decrease pollen exposure

* Common food allergies and surprising products that could trigger a reaction including barbecue sauce or cake icing (tree nuts), imitation crab or ice cream (wheat gluten) and canned tuna (milk).

* A guide to skin allergies explaining how insects, household products, plants and even latex or metal can cause problems ranging from embarrassing rashes to serious health complications

* A look at how eyes are affected by allergies as well as possible short- and long-term solutions

* Distinct health conditions that often are confused with allergies such as colds and sinus infections

* Thirteen categories of over-the-counter allergy products that treat eight common allergy symptoms

* Specific products to treat allergies that can be discussed with an allergist or Rite Aid pharmacist

Rite Aid is offering several reward programs including a three-month program that offers customers $10 or $25 Rite Aid gift cards with either $25 or $50 purchases of select allergy and health products. Customers also can take advantage of a six-month Rite Aid Allergy Rewards program, earning a $20 Rite Aid gift card by purchasing $75 of Zyrtec and/or Benadryl. Details of both programs can be found at here.

Additional resources can be found at www.aaaai.org including an allergist locator, a pollen monitoring database for local conditions and The Virtual AllergistTM, an interactive tool to help patients better understand their symptoms before consulting with a board-certified allergist or Rite Aid pharmacist.

Easter Basket Essentials!

RiteAid sent me a heads up on their Easter Bunny specials today (thanks Eric) which made me do a double take at the calendar - is Easter REALLY just a few days away. Yipes! I am way under prepared for the festivities. The flu went through our family like the plague and set my schedule waaay back!

So it's especially good to know that RiteAid has many of the supplies I'll need to make sure our last minute Easter Baskets can still be filled with all sorts of great deals. They even made a few suggestions which I have included along with my little list of things of baskets I have done in the past.

Finding all the personal goodies for each of my boys is something I enjoy doing. One can never be to old for Santa or the Easter Bunny in our house, it is just the basket and the goodies filling them that grow up.

I say basket, but really I've used anything and everything. I look for "baskets" which can be used again and look good doing it. Here are a few of the things I have used as a basket and the goodies to fill them over the past 18 years as Assistant to the Easter Bunny:

TODDLER YEARS:

Basket: Small Backpack
Filling: art and craft supplies; homemade play dough; new board book

Basket: Plastic Pail
Filling: All the makings for a phenomenal sand castle, sunscreen, decorated reusable water bottle

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL YEARS:

Basket: Plastic tote/briefcase
Filling: Art supplies, mad libs, book from favorite series, personalized pencils, a sketchpad, homemade playdough

Basket: Small wire mesh basket
Filling: Yi-Gi-Oh, Bakugon goodies, deck of cards, dice

Basket: Lunch Box
Filling: Note pad and pencil, set of army men, cowboys, animals or whatnot, homemade playdoh

TEEN YEARS:

Basket: Fedor hat
Filling: Shampoo, conditioner, gel, new brush, cologne

Basket: Wallet
Filling: Gift cards to a couple of his favourite places around town, cash, a picture of me holding a sign that says, "make good choices. . . or else!". okay, so I didn't put that last one in, but I think I just might have to fit that in to this years basket :-)

Basket: Small Laundry Basket
Filling: Fun new boxers, new t-shirt, a few plain white socks because we can never seem to have enough of those in our house!

Basket: Small rubbermaid tote with handle
Filling: Car safety items - flare, tire pressure, etc., car cleaning supplies

Rite Aid has all kinds of sample size bath and body products, small electronics, books, magazines and other everyday necessities that make perfect basket stuffers for teens on up to college students.

Of course, all of the "baskets", no matter the shape they take, come with the Basket Essentials:

Peeps
Chocolate Bunny
Each childs personal candy fave.
A new toothbrush (that Easter Bunny has always been a stickler for healthy teeth!)

If you like the ideas I have suggested, check out Thrifty Fun. They have great ideas about finding creative baskets which can be used again and again, as well as filling the baskets with more than just candies. Thrifty Fun has a long list of non-candy suggestions to help fill up the baskets for your children and some creative basket ideas as well.

What do you use for your Easter Baskets? We would love to hear your suggestions as well. Please feel free to leave a comment sharing your fun ideas. Thanks and have fun :-)
